We have finished up with our House on a Hill Project and are pleased to announce that our deck is now 100% sealed! Not many people know this, but sealing your natural stone decking is vital to preserving and protecting your natural stone. You can clearly see the sealed stone (left side) versus the non-sealed stone (right side).
Stone Armor: Our Deck Sealer of Choice
Stone Decks are beautiful accessories to any backyard living area. They are naturally beautiful, host many hues of radiant colors, are tough & rugged, and provide a secure area for walking. In fact, many people believe these decks are so tough that they do not need to be sealed or protected. This is a common myth that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Truth be told, all natural stone needs to be properly sealed to protect it from the following elements:
UV Rays – solar rays can fade and wear down natural stone over time. If you notice your stone looking faded or discolored, UV erosion is most likely the cause.
Water & Oil Spills – although natural stone is tough, it’s not impervious to discoloration and corrosion from oils and water.
Salt Water Protection – many pools nowadays utilize salt systems to generate chlorine. This is a healthy and efficient source for chlorine generation but the by-product of salt water can cause corrosion issues (just like ocean water).
This list of protective benefits from Stone Armor is fairly short but comprehensive. It is recommended that you reapply this product at least once a season due to wear and tear over time.
A few hours after we sealed the flagstone, we tested our application with a bottle of water. As you can tell, our water does not absorb into the stone at all. As a matter of fact, it beads up and is easily blow aside by the wind or a leaf blower (for those who enjoy some heavier outdoor toys).
The Importance of Protecting Your Natural Stone
As we mentioned in our bullet points above, protecting your natural stone is vital to every backyard! There are various forms of natural stone; Stone Armor protects the following:
Other Natural Porous Stone Surfaces
We’d like to credit the video below to Stone Armor and their YouTube channel. This video shows just how powerful this stone sealant really is; the leaf blower just blows the water right off the stone like marbles on a table.
Protection from Moisture
All natural stone is susceptible to constant moisture, both above & below ground. This means that your beautiful stone deck is afflicted by water due to rain, dew, evaporation, condensation, human interaction and ground water (below soil level). Constant contact from water can cause a wide range of issues for stone protects, including:
Mildew & Algae Growth
Weakening of the Stone
Our Stone Armor product soaks into the porous material of natural stone to seal all of the “voids” that exist throughout the stone’s molecular structure. This keeps the internal composition of the stone healthy and dry; the way it was meant to be. The benefit of such treatment: longer lasting stone that is both vibrant in colors and resistant to weather exposure.
We utilized our pressure sprayer to prepare our flagstone decks prior to installing the Stone Armor product. Pressure washing your deck is a very important step in the installation process. It removes small dust, debris and miscellaneous particles from your deck. This provides a much better bond between the stone and the Stone Armor once applied.
Heat & UV Protection
As we’ve already eluded to above, Stone Armor also protects your stone from the wear and tear due to UV Rays and Heat. North Texas is home to intense 100+ degree days in the summer. Wouldn’t you like to know that your outdoor oasis is protected in such elements? Stone Armor creates a protective barrier that keeps your stone healthy in the tough elements of Texas Heat.
We would like to point out: Stone Armor is not a one-time application that will forever protect your product. This product (like all outdoor products) wears out over time; mainly due to foot traffic (wear) as well as sunlight & water (tear). It’s recommended to reapply this product once every season to ensure your stone has a strong layer of protection designed to keep it healthy and strong.
It took our team two days to install the Stone Armor product for over 6,000 Square Feet of Arizona Flagstone. That’s an incredible pace for such a large surface area to install this product. At Advocate Construction, we care about doing the job quickly and efficiently.
The Application Process
Prepping your work space is a critical aspect of any construction process. Our team spent adequate time preparing the House on a Hill Project to apply over 6,000 square feet of Stone Armor. There are various methods of preparation, but what we found worked the best was:
Removing Outdoor Furniture
Pressure Washing the Deck (the day before the product was applied)
Preventing Foot Traffic (for 2 hours after product is applied)
Stone Armor has a very quick setting time and often dries & cures within 2 hours from application. We utilized a pump sprayer (same as a bug sprayer from your local hardware store). Using a pump sprayer provides a controlled spray and decreases the amount of waste and spill over into the pool and other surfaces that we did not need to seal. Having the right tools is part of our protocol – we always show up prepared for the task at hand!

Our Elite Cabinetry & Millworks division is specially designed to create unique spaces that fit our customer’s lifestyles, uses and design preferences.

We have a whole team of dedicated carpenters and wood workers who design our custom cabinets from scratch. We have the capability to source the wood, select the finish, & install unique and functional pieces (such as the sliding basket cabinet, as seen below).
The Lake Bend project is a beautiful culmination of all of our experience in home construction techniques:
Foundation Setting: We built this home from the ground up – always starting with the foundation first
Expert Home Design
Sourcing Exceptional Products: selected for its quality, durability and beauty
Constructing the Framework and Finish Out Pieces, such as this kitchen
Assessing Our Custom Kitchen Installation
Approaching this project from the top down, it took over 1 year to design & construct this amazing home. We classify this type of project as a New Home Construction – 100% custom design from the ground up. This was a very complex project that required delicate hand crafted work for each piece that we installed in this kitchen.
Surgically, each piece of cabinetry had to be Edge Banded by hand. Our wood is Maple and sourced from Brazos Forest Products. It’s important to us to use this premier quality hardwood due to its superior quality. We only use the best on all of our projects. For that reason, it’s imperative that we align ourselves with suppliers that follow the same ethics as our parent company: Advocate Construction.
That being said, we created some pretty amazing custom cabinets for this kitchen. Our gorgeous kitchen consists of:
Hidden Cutting Boards
A Double Oven
A Commercial Grade Refrigerator
Completely Custom Vent Hood and Cabinets
Slow Closing Hinges
Soft Close Glides
Automotive Gloss Finish on all cabinets
Selecting & Creating High Quality Materials
For starters, not only did we use the highest quality cabinet materials on the market, we also sourced some pretty amazing finish products for the rest of the kitchen. We selected Marble in the Crema Marfle hue. This type of material provides a classic “cream marble with tan undertones,” as stated by MSI Stone. It is a perfect product to install in rooms where you’d like to emphasis a beautiful floor finish, such as a bathroom, kitchen or entry way. We are capable of installing this material in any room that you desire and it’s one of many options that we provide our Elite Cabinetry & Millworks customers.
Moving on, we selected a Quartz Counter top Finish for our kitchen island. Quartz is quickly becoming a very popular material for islands and counter tops due to its beautiful color and ease of maintenance. Quartz is a unique material comprised of “ground quartz stone, pigments and resin” – WikiHow.
High Gloss Automotive Finish
Thirdly, we selected a unique High Gloss Automotive Finish for our custom cabinets. Applying High Gloss Automotive Paint to any surface is a very delicate procedure and we do not recommend it for the average DIY (do it yourself) candidate. We applied this high gloss finish to our cabinets using a highly controlled applicator to ensure 100% perfection. The result: a high gloss cabinet system that blends beautifully with our Crema Marfle Marble floors and White Quartz counter top. Absolutely breath-taking!
An Extreme Emphasis On Quality

The Three Layer Systems
As you can see from the image above, we utilize a three layer system to deliver superior quality & durability to any environment. Our three layer system includes the following protective barriers on any flooring surface:
Polyaspartic Polyurea Clear Top Coat
Middle Chip Flake Layer: blended to create your custom color
At this point, you may be wondering, “what on earth is Polyurea?” We mention it a lot and its because it’s a key ingredient for our success.
By definition Polyurea is a type of elastomer (polymer) that is created by combining a isocyanate & synthetic resin. – Wikipedia
This may sound like gibberish, but it essentially is a reaction that creates a resin compound that is nearly impervious to water, oils and chemicals. This is because Polyurea creates its own polymer chain that reacts quickly during application and has a low affinity for moisture.
By applying this compound to your home and commercial setting, we are providing you with a new flooring environment that is tough, resilient and highly customize-able. Our Chip Flake system is unique because it provides a unique blend of colored Vinyl Chips that we can blend to create any color combination you desire. It’s a unique system that others try to mimic and one that we’ve mastered.
Our Wide Variety of Color Selections
What would a 100% customize-able flooring system be without a wide array of color selections to choose from? Of course, you can always feel free to choose from one of our pre-selected colors (listed below). However, if you’re feeling daring – by all means customize away! We work very closely with our Penntek manufacturer and can customize a color that is just right for you and your family or office!

Every foundation repair that we perform begins with step number one: locating the void. Second we identify the extensiveness of the void. Third we take steps to fill the void and install hardware and special tools beneath your home. Our objective is simple – eliminate the impact a void can cause on your home by giving your home a new foundation to stand upon.
Locating The Void
As in all foundation issues, our very first objective is identifying the location & cause for the void beneath your home. Foundation Repairs are very simple in nature. They are caused by shifting land masses beneath your home’s foundation. Oftentimes, this can be due to:
Underground Water Channels that clear out sections of earth as water finds a way to escape
Heaving & Shrinking of soils due to heavy rain and periods of drought
Rapid Temperature Changes that cause the soil to shrink and expand
In order for us to better understand how these voids are created, we’ve included some information below on the basics of Soil Composition for North Central Texas. These soil conditions are unique to our area and create some tough situations for our customers.
North Central Prairie
Our soils in North & Central Texas are very expansive. They consist of a heavy clay density which absorbs high amounts of water and lets off that water during periods of droughts. This causes highly exaggerated soil behavior when compared to other areas of our state.
Our land zone of North Central Texas rests upon the North Central Prairie. This is an area of land that expands nearly 7 Million Acres and extends as far as the following counties:
West – Wichita Falls (includes Rolling Red Prairies)
East – Parker County
South – Comanche County
North – Southern Regions of Oklahoma
Conveniently (pun intended) the Wichita Falls region lies upon a unique plot of soil known as the Rolling Red Prairies. There are over 1 million acres of land that lie in the Rolling Red Prairie region. These soils consist of “mostly deep, well-drained, brown or reddish-brown, slightly acid loams over neutral to alkaline, clayey subsoils.” (*source The Texas Almanac). We invite you to click the below link for a visual portrayal of all of Texas soil environments.
Understanding our soil composition for the North Central Texas region is very important. It’s critical that our customers who are experiencing shifting & settling in their homes understand how these soils behave. The reason being: soil conditions do not repair themselves naturally. Our teams are trained to understand the soil conditions for your region and select the proper tools to handle the job properly.
If you’re experiencing shifting, cracking walls, lifting concrete decks or other signs of foundation issues – we invite you to contact us for a free evaluation. Our teams can be at your home within a couple of days to identify the cause for foundation issues and provide you with an estimate for our services.
Trust us, from the clients that we’ve helped – we’ve learned that fixing the issue is much easier than letting the issue fester and grow. Oftentimes, the cost for repairing your foundation in the early stages of shifting is much cheaper than letting the issue grow. We may be able to use less intensive measures if the issue is caught early on rather than later.
Selecting The Right Tool
Once we have gotten boots on the ground and identified the cause for the foundation issues, we will inform you of our repair process and the timetable for the repairs. Often times, our crews can be on the job site and complete the repair in as little as a day.
We use various techniques to repair your home’s foundation. These techniques vary in degree of technicality but all work to stabilize the slab of your home and bring it to level. Our processes focus on the following steps:
Identify the cause for the foundation issue
Create a free evaluation for the cost of the repairs
Bring your home to level – we gently shift the foundation & reinforce our supports to create a new permanent structure to support the slab for your home
We guarantee our work with a limited warranty – please contact our office for details
Polyurethane Foam Injection
One of our favorite methods of lifting your home’s foundation is the application of Polyurethane Foam Injection. We source this product from NCFI Polyurethanes. This product is very advanced in it’s benefits and includes all of the following environment conscious benefits:
Ease of Application – ease of mind and very consistent performance for our customers
Scorch Free Processing
No settling or shifting after application
Highly versatile in various applications
To understand this application easier, we’ve included a video of our crews using this product in the field. We trained our teams extensively on the application of this product. Although it’s relatively simple to install – it is critical that our crews are properly trained for an accurate install.
An Advocate You Can Trust
Lifting homes is no joke and we take that responsibility very seriously. You will always find our crews inspecting the entire slab of your home before applying the Polyurethane Foam Injection. It’s critical that we always first identify the extensiveness of the foundation issue. Oftentimes our shifting and settling is due to the existence of voids beneath our homes.
Our goal is locate the various locations of those voids and apply our products properly to ensure your home does not shift or settle again. It’s impossible to prevent 100% of shifting and settling but we use the very best in tools and product application to ensure that our work does it’s best to keep you and your home safe.
This image shows our use of concrete pillars, blocks & steel shims. We combine these high density materials to create pillars custom sized to fit your foundation height. We can adjust these materials until we reach a level elevation on all four corners of your home.
Using The Correct Tools
We often get questions from our home owners asking us, “how are you going to fix my foundation?” The answer is often short but complex. We Fix your foundation by the process of time, hard work and determination.
At Advocate Construction, we firmly believe in the importance of being an advocate for all of our customers. This means that when we show up, we show up to work. We work diligently until the problem is solved. Often times, the theory of Good Old Hard Work is good enough for us.
Once we arrive on site, we take the time necessary to carefully assess your foundation and check where a repair or adjustment needs to be made. After we’ve completed the assessment, we perform the foundation repair. All of our teams and field members are carefully hired, trained and certified to complete foundation repairs. We are determined to provide you with quality crews – so we do the hard work of hiring and training ahead of time.
By the time our goes show up at your door, they are ready to work and you’ll be amazed at our accuracy and professionalism!
This is a closer view of our concrete pillars, blocks and shims. As you can see, these materials are very rugged and tough. They are meant to be put through tough environments and designed to last. From high pressure beneath the foundation to moist environments, they will stand tough to the test!
Carefully Assessing Your Foundation
Before any work can be completed on the home, we carefully inspect your entire foundation for all signs of cracks and shifting. Homes are large bodies of concrete and brick that weigh heavily on the soil. One of the largest issues that we see in Texas is our clay soils that absorb large amounts of water during heavy rain seasons. These same clay soils also shrink heavily during periods of high drought.
Our soil is very volatile and it’s what makes our grass so green in Spring and dry in Winter. That’s Texas at it’s best, so we learn to beat Texas at it’s game. Nathan Moore, our owner is extremely knowledgeable in the field of home settling, shifting, and clay soil expansion & contraction. We encourage our customers to call in anytime they have questions or would like some more information. You can even call us before your detect any signs of damage! There is nothing better in foundations than to be proactive rather than reactive!
Once we get a call from a new customer, we offer to provide you with a free foundation inspection. We will walk the perimeter of your home and capture elevations to determine where the shifting is originating from. After we’ve collected enough information, we put together a game plan to approach your foundation issues using our tried and testing systems. For more information, see below!
Using the process of our lifting mechanisms, we are able to fix issues in and around the home. This image shows our repair on a drafty and crooked door. We realigned this home, repaired and door and saved the home owner on costly insulation repairs. Needless to say, when you fix your foundation it aligns other things in your life the right way!
Shimming & Concrete Caps
Now that we have covered the basics of our hard work philosophy, how exactly do we get the job done? When it comes to foundation repairs it’s simple and efficient: Shimming & Concrete Caps.
By definition, Shims are sections of Stainless Steel; often with a width of 1/4 inch. After we have carefully examined your foundation we develop a plan to raise certain portions of your home.
We partner with 2000 Industries Group as our sourcing partner for our foundation tools. They supply us with:
Concrete Cylinders, Top Caps & Blocks
Steel Top Brackets, Lock Pipe, Steel Piers, Shims, Drive Blocks, etc.
Power Hydraulic Machines & Rams
Concrete Cylinders & Blocks are pieces of concrete formed to create high density slabs. We use these slabs to support our foundations after raising the foundation with the help of our handy Power Hydraulic Machines & Rams.
All of these tools combine into slowly lifting mechanisms that work in unison to repair our customers foundations. The process is slow, tedious and very technical.
Sometimes to get down beneath the foundation, it puts us in tight spaces. This image shows our crew drilling down beneath the foundation to install our hydraulic lifts and begin the process of lifting the home. We are gentle during this process and careful to watch for any unusual displacement.
Applying The Tools
As you can tell, the process of foundation repairs is simple in theory, yet very risky and time consuming. That’s why we’ve been developing our craft in this industry since our humble beginnings in 2009. Since our company’s birth, we have repaired hundreds of foundations!
While repairing foundations, we keep our mission of Advocating for our customers close to our hearts. We recognize that while we are going to work everyday, we are lifting and repairing the homes of our customers. These homes are places of refuge, security and safety. They are meant to be places where life makes sense – not where things go wrong.
That’s why we passionately take care of our customers day by day. It’s our passion and our mission to repair foundations the same why that Christ repairs us. Sometimes our lives get messed up and things get out of level. We know that our foundations are cracking and we need to call in an expert who can fix our foundation. We recognize that while we are fixing foundations here on Earth, Christ Jesus is fixing our foundations of our souls. Pretty cool stuff!
